Series: 1912 Zeichnungen von Emil Orlík. Drucken Nach Des Meisters Originalen

Original collotype from 1912 of Japanische Angler (“Japanese Anglers”) [1900] by Emil Orlík (1870-1932), German painter, etcher and lithographer.

In a career span of almost fifty years, from the 1880s to the 1930, Japonisme defined Orlík’s career, becoming one of the most appreciated elements of his oeuvre. Like many Western artists at the time, Emil Orlík’s work took inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints, ukiyo-e, its use of color and asymmetry, flattened planes and uses of compositional and negative spaces as well as the emphasis on diagonals.
