Original chromolithography print of “Der Abendstern” ["The evening star"] (1911) from 1920 by Franz von Stuck.
Symbolist painter, sculptor and printmaker, Franz von Stuck (German, 1863-1928) was best known for his depictions of Ancient Mythology and classical figures.
Although nowadays Stuck's mostly recognized through his paintings, his ouvre carries a sculptural quality and showcases attent detail to the human figure, indicative of his proclivities toward the field of Sculpture.
Beyond his skillful artistic expression, Franz von Stuck made relevant contributions to Art History, as co-founder of the Munich Secession (1893) and Master at the Munich Academy, in which he taught world renowned artists, such as Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
