Designed for the interior of the viennese Cabaret Fledermaus (1907-1913), the Fledermaus set is one of Hoffmann's most iconic furniture designs produced by Wittmann, that had been given sole creation authorization by Josef Hoffmann according to his original designs.

Composed by two chairs (Models 728s) and a round table (Model 728T), this particular set is made of stained black beech wood and Hoffmann's pattern fabric design in both seats and underneath the table's glass top.

The set pieces' accentuated geometric and modernist structures in black stained wood are beautifully complemented by the contrasting light pattern and the polished brass plate at the table's base. Both the chairs and table contain the original Wittmann labels.

Provenance: Otto Zapf’s (1931-2018) private estate. Zapf was a German furniture designer who designed numerous furniture classics. Together with Dieter Rams he began to design furniture in the 1950s and together with Niels Wiese Vitsoe they founded the furniture factory “Vitsoe + Zapf”, which marketed Dieter Rams' designs under the VITSOE brand.

State of Conservation: very good used condition. Two original labels. No bumps, no abrasion. The wood is beech, stained black but in such a way that the grain of the wood shines through. The cover is an Art Nouveau design and is also located under the glass top of the table. The glass plate is in good, unscratched and undamaged condition. Only slight signs of wear in the lower area of the rungs on the back of the chair. A small stain on a chair upholstery. Not conspicuous and not disturbing. Slight scratches on the brass sheet at the base of the table.
