Series: 1909 Die Nibelungen, first edition
Multi-layered line-block dyptich by Austrian Expressionist Otto Czeschka, from the artist’s influencial series of illustrations of the Nibelung, composed for Franz Keim's abridged 1909 version of the literary saga. Czeschka's geometrical pattern-work and colorful compositions of the mythic tale evoke an enchanted world filled with stylized toy soldiers and chessboard knights, similar to those displayed by the artist at the Viennese Kunstschau exhibition in 1908.
