Painter and sculptor Sascha Schneider (Russian-German, 1870-1927) contributed to the Symbolist movement, depicting dreamlike, classical compositions populated by ominous figures from literature, the bible and ancient mythology.
Homoeroticism and the male body as an object of desire were prevalent motifs in Schneider’s work, setting him apart from other Symbolist artists of the time and becoming a pioneer LGBTQ figure in Art History.
